The Post War period, runs from the end of World War II (1945) through the 50s and into the 60s. The period is marked first by food rationing and austerity with a gradual change through the 50's to greater prosperty for all led by the United States.
As the economies of the world expanded and people in Britain enjoyed new access to consumer goods. Amid the difficulties and excitement of post war recovery people turned to fashion for relief from their worries and as a way to express themselves.
